Have you ever felt like you're slowly killing yourself when you are at work? I certainly feel that way. I have started gathering some data about the negative impacts of sitting all day and it really shocked me that it's more lethal than smoking! According to NY Times, Patel, an epidemiologist at the American Cancer Society "estimates that on average, people who sit too much shave a few years off of their lives." With that being said, I started looking up on how to stay healthy working at an office.
Here are some tips that I thought would be helpful for me:
Replace Computer Chair To An Exercise Ball
An exercise ball would improve your posture since you are forced to straighten your back as there is no arm rest or chair back to lean on. If you make the smallest movement on the ball, you'd need to move again to stay in balance.
Drink 8 Cups Of Water
This one is obvious but a lot of people ignore it. It does get a little tiring to buy bottles of water so if your office offers water already installed then count your lucky stars. You can also bring your own re-usable BPA free water bottle and refill water at home. However, I haven't found a good one yet that I can easily wash. I'm a little bit of a freak when it comes to what I put in my body. If you know of any, let me know! :)
Take A 5 Min Break after Every 1 Hour Of Sitting
This is self explanatory and much needed for your body.
Move Your Eyes Away From The Screen Once In Awhile And Blink Often!
Your eyes need some TLC too. Try to look somewhere to reduce eye strain and also blinking too will help your eyes from drying.
Lastly, have something that will keep you motivated and inspired to keep working. It could be a picture of your dog.. or inspirational quotes.
You need a healthy mind as well, don't forget about that! You might be burnt out or stressed, so maybe having a few seconds to look at inspirations might make you feel a little better.
That's all I can think of right now.
